I'd say the career development group is particularly relevant for you as a new entrant. You meet lots of people, good for developing your knowledge and network of contacts for referring to if you wonder what others are doing, or if you are looking for a new job, etc. They offer visits to libraries and have talks and free training etc. so well worth it.
I've been on the Health Library Group special interest, and the academia/university group. I'm now a member of the UKeIG, which I think is brilliant. Sure they talk a lot about einformation, as it is the future, and mobile devices etc., but I find the information valuable even if I'm not an active member as such. I think the sub groups are what you make of them, you decide how active you want to be and what you get out of them.
I think I will go with the public library group and the career development group.
ukeig looks interesting and I'll be sure to check their website from time to time.
Starting out new in this field, it feels like there's so much to take in!
